Target Minerals: Gold & Copper
Location & Access
The Loma Viejo Pedro project is located in a remote area in the far western Dominican Republic close to the Haitian border south of the Las Tres Palmas and northwest of the Jengibre project.
Geology and Sampling
The project is hosted in volcanic rocks of the Upper Cretaceous Tireo Formation. The principal geochemical anomaly lies within a 2 x 3 Kilometer zone situated in the south of the concession located near the frontal thrust of the Tireo Formation.
Mineralization and alteration
From 270 outcrop and sub-crop samples, 29 have values >1g/t gold with a high of 9.68g/t. Gold bearing rocks are associated with elevated values of Tellurium up to 28.1 ppm, Barium up to 2,790 ppm, Bismuth up to 4.74 ppm and patchy Lead and Antimony. Host rocks are predominantly quartz phyric intrusive or fragmental volcanics with intercalated limestone. Alteration includes silicification and extensive zones of quartz-sericite-pyrite alteration with gossans often developed over the more pyritic zones.
Future Work Programmes
Geological mapping and sampling programmes are being completed by Gold Fields.
